MAHI for Railways

Project Aarogyajeevan

Project MAHI for Railways was implemented to address menstrual health challenges faced by women travelers. Despite being a natural biological process, menstruation is often surrounded by stigma and misinformation. A need assessment revealed limited access to menstrual hygiene facilities during travel - prompting action. Under this initiative, 36 sanitary napkin vending machines and disposal bins were installed across 15 selected railway stations in Mumbai.

The project focused on:

  • Raising awareness among women passengers.
  • Improving access to safe, high-quality sanitary napkins
  • Training 180 sanitation managers, station directors, and railway staff in Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management.
  • Promoting safe and eco-friendly disposal practices
